Ariana Grande has found herself in hot water following a donut licking incident, where she was overheard telling a friend she hates America and Americans. Grande’s reps immediately went into crisis mode to clean up the singer’s mess, only making it worse. The apology statement goes into topics such as healthy eating and obesity.
In the apology statement, where Grande points out her comments were made during a private moment (that just happened to be made in a public place) were taken out of context. She stated,
“I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my country. As an advocate for healthy eating, food is very important to me and I sometimes get upset by how freely we as Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences that it has on our health and society as a whole. The fact that the United States has the highest child obesity rate in the world frustrates me.” Perhaps turning this into an opportunity, Grande says, “We need to do more to educate ourselves and our children about the dangers of overeating and the poison that we put into our bodies. We need to demand more from our food industry.”
What does healthy eating and the fact that Americans can eat freely, without giving it any thought have anything to do with hating America and Americans?
Grande’s people are really working hard to put a positive spin on this nightmare incident that was caught on tape, but the fans are having none of it. The fans have taken to Twitter to express their unhappiness saying things like:
“That .@ArianaGrande apology is bullshhhhhhh. She didn’t even make mention of the doughnut licking or apologize for being rude to the staff.
You don’t get to hate Americans and lick our donuts too. It’s one or the other.”
Not only did the donut licking incident cause outrage with the fans, but as a result of the tape being made public, the donut shop where the video was taken is now under investigation for the donuts being out and uncovered. They have already been downgraded from an A grade from the health department to a B grade.
What are your thoughts on this incident? And Grande’s try at spinning the incident to be about obesity and healthy eating, rather than her hating America and Americans??
