Demi Lovato bared it all for Vanity Fair. We mean took it all off – from her makeup, to the lighting, to no retouching and no clothes – the singer went all natural. And the idea was all her own. Lovato self-imposed rules gave her the freedom to bare her soul and demonstrate her beauty, both inside and out, as well as, to display her confidence.
What was the singer trying to prove? That real is beautiful. You don’t need makeup or to have the photos be retouched to look beautiful, just being you should be enough. In a video on the Vanity Fair website, Demi Lovato spoke about why she decide to do this saying,
“The reason why I decided to do this photo shoot was because when I think of confidence I think of many things, but one thing in particular is feeling comfortable in your own skin. I thought there was something incredible about no makeup what so ever. No clothes and no retouching.” She continued, “Its empowering and it shows other women you can get to a place where you can overcome the obstacles of body issues. You can feel comfortable and confident in your skin. In the past, I suffered from eating disorders and I basically went from hating every single inch of my body, to working on myself and trying to figure out ways to love myself, love the skin that I’m in.” She finished by saying, “I learned that you can get to a place where you love the skin you are in and I am excited to share that with the world.”
Lovato wanted to show she is truly confident and to her that meant, “letting go, being authentic, saying I don’t give a f**k and this is who I am.”
