If you believe some reports, Zayn Malik broke up the band over a Yoko problem. One of the biggest boy bands since the Beatles almost suffered a similar fate when Zayn Malik walked away from the singing sensation discovered by the legendary Simon Cowell.
It wasn’t long ago that the One Direction romantic drama was caused by the Harry Styles/Taylor Swift breakup. Styles recovered, Swift had another hit on her hand and One D remained intact. Enter Little Mix star Perrie Edwards and it looks like One Direction won’t be able to Shake it Off any time soon. Malik left the group back in March citing a desire to Rumors have swirled about Malik’s engagement to Little Mix star Perrie Edwards.
The group made Forbes being listed as the second richest celebrities under the age of 30 reportedly earning $75 million dollars in one year. Teenage girls everywhere were heartbroken when Malik announced his departure. The group decided to continue as a foursome and while initially they wished each other well there were rumors of feuds between members.
Liam Payne finally admitted on Capital FM’s Breakfast Show that Malik left to spend more time with is fiancee. Perrie Edwards gave her own interview on Capital FM and joked about the possibility that she and Zayn would be split tomorrow though it seemed to be more of a dig at the tabloids constant speculation about the state of the relationship.
Despite leaving the group saying he wanted to be a “normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight,” Zayn is reportedly recording music for a solo career raising the questions, if he really left for private time, why is he recording at all? Why not continue to record with the phenomenally successful group that helped make him famous?
Was there some other friction in the group? Did Malik become too big for his britches? Is Perrie Edwards being used as the Yoko scapegoat? It all usually comes out in the songs so I guess we’ll have to wait to see what they all sing about to figure it out.
